Much like your permanent diaper changing station, it isn’t always a daily event where there is a spill actually on the diaper changing station; usually the baby and dirty diaper are changed without event.  Washing frequency is really a subjective decision the parents make.  Similar to the traditional permanent terry cloth changing covers, most parents don’t wash that daily (to the extent there aren’t any spills on the changing cover), so we usually recommend that to the extent there isn’t a spill that they wash it at the same frequency they would wash their nursery changing pad cover.

Although the fabrics are quite plush, everything is pre-shrunk and machine washable,  and very durable for the washing machine.  It’s washing machine life is about the same as any other high end bedding.  The outer minky fabric is water RESISTANT and liquid spills will bead for enough time to clean without it reaching the foam taslan cover which is water REPELLANT.  To the extent spills don’t reach the taslan foam cover, there is no need to wash that part of it; only the outer cover is usually washed with any frequency.  That said, for major events, the taslan cover is machine washable as well, and the parent would simply take the foam out and throw the taslan cover in the wash as well.

Remember, like a pillow, the foam itself is NOT machine washable, but the taslan fabric covering the foam will not allow any spills to reach the foam.  Again, like with any other washing decisions, this can range depending on each parent.  For what it’s worth, with our kids we use it as a second changing station downstairs and wash it every couple weeks along with the upstairs terry cloth changing station in the nursery.  If there was a spill we would simply remove the outer cover and throw it into the wash.
